Tatooinian Gothic

Tatooinian Gothic
limited edition of 50
Like any other nerd of my generation, I consider the original Star Wars trilogy to possibly be the 3 most fascinating films ever made. There's nothing I can say that hasn't been said a million times about how great this franchise is. What I will say is that I kind of feel like Star Wars art is a little played out and perhaps trite at this point. Being no stranger to hypocrisy, I decided to focus on a couple of obscure characters (how I justified it in my stupid head).

She knows Luke can't stay, he needs Luke for one more season. I give you everyone's favorite moisture farmers, Aunt Beru & Uncle Owen...meets American Gothic!

Tatooinian Gothic is my contribution to Bottleneck Gallery's Get A Room group exhibit, a show dedicated to famous couples in pop culture. It is currently available for $35 here.

The Chronic 3-D Album Cover

The Chronic
mixed media
Although I am clearly not cool enough to listen to modern hip hop, I still have a place in my heart for that of the mid 80s to mid 90s. I am, and have always considered myself a big fan of all things N.W.A. Their pioneering form of gangsta rap really appealed to me particularly at that age. The over-the-top lyrics, the projected lifestyle, and Dre's music all came together in brilliant form. To me it was never as good but when N.W.A. broke up in 1991, what choice did I have but to follow everyone's solo career? When Dr. Dre's first album The Chronic debuted in 1992, I immediately bought and wore it out on my brand new state of the art Sony Discman. I must admit I was immediately conflicted with the shots taken at Eazy-E throughout the album (since he was my favorite rapper) but all of that aside, this album is absolutely fantastic from beginning to end. Simply put, Dr. Dre's a genius. I still listen to it often and easily declare it to be one of my favorites albums of all time. Like I said, as Ive gotten older my musical tastes have changed. I will still put The Chronic up there with any other classic album and was absolutely thrilled to take on this project.

This is a 19x19" mixed media sculpture consisting primarily of foam, wood, and acrylic paint. It is available for $350 here.
