As I've mentioned before, professional wrestling was a HUGE part of my childhood. I was at just the right age during its peak in the 1980's and it simply dominated my world for several years. Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant at Wrestlemania III was likely the biggest and most hyped match of that era and I wanted to pay tribute to those memories. This print not only depicts the obvious adversaries, but there are also a few things that might only be recognizable to the hardcore fan: Bob Uecker was the guest ring announcer for the bout, Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse "The Body" called the match, & Bobby Heenan was Andre's manager. The broken necklace represents how this rivalry began (with Andre ripping off Hogan's necklace on Piper's Pit and challenging him at Wrestlemania). They were friends at the time...it was a big deal...trust me. Also the 3 icons illustrate Hogan's creedo of "training, prayers, and vitamins". Sex tapes and reality shows came later. Obviously Hogan ultimately won the match (as he never lost in those days) by bodyslamming the 520 lb. Giant and following with his patented atomic leg drop. It was one of those "never forget where you were when it happened" kind of moments and I'll never forget the excitement.
This limited edition screen print is now available for $40 here. I also have a very limited edition of navy blue variants for $50....brother!
